2000 Event Specifics



1/2/00 Millennium 2K Run

The year 2000 begins with a 2K run to be held at the Eastridge Mall starting at 8:30 a.m. Meet inside the mall to register near the food court. Come early to register and pay your 2000 membership fees. Entry fee for this race is $5 for members, $5 for students, and $10 for non-members.


1/15/00 Winter Series #1, 2 miles

Kicks off the 2000 Winter Series, the first of five events. The 2 mile run starts at 9 a.m. at Sunrise Shopping Center. Come early to register and pay your 2000 membership fees.


2/5/00 Winter Series #2, 5K

Register at the parking lot at Fort Caspar. This 5K event follows the Platte River Parkway trail to Morad Park and back starting at 9 a.m.


2/19/00 Winter Cowboy State Games, 4 miles

Register at the concession stand next to the North Casper Soccer Complex. The 4 mile course will be on the Platte River Parkway trail starting at 9 a.m.


3/4/00 Winter Series #3, 4 miles

Register at the terminal building at Natrona County International Airport. The event will start at 9 a.m. and the course will be held on Airport grounds roads. Contact: Bill Grigg 234-2321 (H)


3/25/00 Winter Series #4, 5 miles

Register at the shelter at Edness Kimball Wilkins State Park. The event will start at 9 a.m. with course following EKW asphalt trails.


4/8/00 Winter Series #5, 10K

Register at storage garage located at the NE corner of the soccer fields at intersection of the river and Bryan Stock Trail road. The event will start at 9 a.m. with course being an out and back on the Platte River Parkway trail with turnaround point at the 1st St. overpass.


5/20/00 CAEDA 'Beat the Competition Fun Run', 5K/15K

CAEDA, Casper Area Economic Development Alliance, Beat the Competition Fun Run, 5K and 15K. Register at parking lot of Basko Building (Wyoming Oil & Gas Conservation Commission), located west of the intersection of the N. Platte River and 1st Street. The course will follow the Platte River Parkway.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. with 15K starting at 8 a.m. and 5K at 8:30 a.m. Preregistration cost is $10 or $15 day of race. Cost includes a T-shirt. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each category in each race. The categories are: Men, Women, Corporate teams with 3 members running the 5K. 6/9 thru 6/11 Summer Cowboy State Games

All events begin at 7 a.m. Events are 5K on 6/9/00, 10K on 6/10/00, and half marathon on 6/11/00. Register with Cowboy State Games. Fees are $15 for one event or $20 for two or more. 6/17/00 Run for Amy & Remember Those Missing

Registration and start at the Douglas National Guard Armory, 315 N. Pearson Rd., one block east of McDonalds. 10K starts at 8:15 a.m. and 5K run/walk starts at 9:15 a.m. Pre-registration fee is $15 and $18 race day. Includes a t-shirt and race refreshments and merchandise drawing. Proceeds will fund the search for Amy Wroe Bechtel. 6/24/00 Summer Solstice Run/Walk

This event celebrates the start of summer and the longest day of the year in an extremely unique way - a moonlight run/walk down a lighted runway at midnight. The event will take place on June 24, 2000, registration starting at 10 p.m. at the Natrona County International Airport terminal building. Drawing for door prizes starts at 11 p.m.

Entry fee is $15 for adults, $10 for ages 10 thru 16, and free for those under age 10. All proceeds go to benefit Jason's Friends Foundation. Note that there will not be t-shirts this year.

The actual run/walk will begin at midnight. The course will be a 4 mile run and 2 mile walk. The course will be timed for running participants. Strollers and wheelchairs are welcome. The airport's runways will be closed for the event but will remain lighted for the duration of the event. Contact: Bill Grigg 234-2321 (H)


7/11/00 Casper Chase

The Casper Chase will be held Tuesday, July 11, 2000 marking the start of the Central Wyoming Fair and Rodeo parade. The 5K road race begins at 9:20 a.m., with start/finish line at 7th & Ash streets. Also available is a 1K Kids fun run, at 9:10 a.m., at City Park (Center & 7th streets), with the course on the sidewalk around the park.

All participants will need to pick up race numbers, t-shirts and packets between 6:30 and 8:30 a.m. sharp at City Park (Center & 7th) the day of the race. (Race number is required for shirt pickup). Preregister to guarantee shirt and packet. Late entries will also be accepted during those times. Male and female first, second, and third place awards will be given in each age category as well as overall male and female.

Entry fees are $5 for the Kids Fun Run and $18 for adults before July 7, $23 after July 7. The non-refundable entry fee includes t-shirt, goody bag, and post-race snacks. Last year there were 87 runners for the 5K run. For the safety of all runners, baby strollers, roller blades/skates, head sets, and pets will not be allowed. 7/22/00 Heather Kelly Birthday Run

This is a memorial event for longtime Strider member Heather Kelly. All proceeds will be used to have Heather's name inscribed on the memorial plaque along the Platte River Parkway path located between the derrick and Amoco park.

Registration is onsite at the Wyoming Oil and Gas building (Basko Bldg.), located at 1st street and Poplar. The 5K course will be run on the Platte River Parkway path with a 7 a.m. start time. Contact: Amy Daley 265-2188 (H) or 577-6727 (W)


8/5/00 Deer Creek Days

The 5K race is on Saturday August 5, in Glenrock, beginning at 7 a.m., registration from 6:00 to 6:50 a.m., or pre-registration forms have typically been available in the newspaper. 8/12/00 Jim Borgerding Memorial Run/Walk

The third annual memorial run/walk is held to honor the memory of longtime Windy City Strider member Jim Borgerding. Jim logged his first mile on July 30, 1980, at the age of 46. He became a familiar site to drivers on Outer Belt where he often ran. His dedication to running for the next seventeen years, a reflection of his character, was an inspiration to many. 8/19/00 Mountain Challenge, 10K

Course begins at Rotary Park and follows Casper Mountain road, finishing at Beartrap Meadow. Start time is 8 a.m. Entry Fee: $5 members, $10 non-members, includes pair of gloves.


8/25/00 Citizens Race, High School Cross Country Meet

This will be the second year the High School Cross Country teams have held their Casper meet on the mountain. The course is on dirt roads nearby Beartrap meadow, which serves as the start line. High School races will begin at 4 p.m. The citizens will take to the course at 6 p.m. Come early to watch the high school teams and to find a place to park. Contact: Christy Olsen 235-0901 (H).


9/09/00 Fall Fest

This is a new event. The Fall Fest 5K run/walk and 1K kids run is scheduled for September 9th, 2000. Race starts at 2 p.m. with registration beginning at 1 p.m at the Holiday Inn parking lot. Entry Fee: $5 members, $10 non-members, kids fun run (under 12) is free. Fees include admission into the Platte River Parkway Beer Fest which will also be held at the Holiday Inn parking lot. 10/14/00 Bar Nunn Radio Run, 5K

Registration to be held at park near entrance of Bar Nunn. Starts at 8 a.m., with course on the streets of Bar Nunn, no hills here. Contact: Genelle Bonnel 237-5812 (H)


11/18/00 Turkey Trot, 5K

Register at Edness Kimball Wilkins, start is 9 a.m. Two canned food goods or $5 can be used as your entry fee (To benefit Salvation Army). Various doors prizes will be drawn including a turkey, pie, and other fixings.


12/31/00 Resolution Run, 2 miles

The Resolution Run will be held at the Eastridge Mall.
