2001 Event Specifics



1/13/01 Winter Series #1, 2 miles

Kicks off the 2001 Winter Series, the first of five events. The 2 mile run starts at 9 a.m. at Sunrise Shopping Center. Come early to register and pay your 2001 membership fees. Prepay for all 5 series events for $25. $7 member, $10 non-member.


2/3/01 Winter Series #2, 5K

Register at the parking lot at Fort Caspar. This 5K event follows the Platte River Parkway trail to Morad Park and back starting at 9 a.m. Entry fee: $7 member, $10 non-member.


2/17/01 Winter Cowboy State Games, 4 miles

Register at the concession stand next to the North Casper Soccer Complex. The 4 mile course will be on the Platte River Parkway trail starting at 9 a.m.


3/3/01 Winter Series #3, 4 miles

Register at the terminal building at Natrona County International Airport. The event will start at 9 a.m. and the course will be held on Airport grounds roads. Entry fee: $7 member, $10 non-member.


3/24/01 Winter Series #4, 5 miles

Register at the shelter at Edness Kimball Wilkins State Park. The event will start at 9 a.m. with course following EKW asphalt trails. Entry fee: $7 member, $10 non-member.


4/7/01 Winter Series #5, 10K

Register at storage garage located at the NE corner of the soccer fields at intersection of the river and Bryan Stock Trail road. The event will start at 9 a.m. with course being an out and back on the Platte River Parkway trail with turnaround point at the 1st St. overpass. Entry fee: $7 member, $10 non-member.


5/12/01 Douglas Animal Shelter Run with your Pet, 5K

Entry fee: $15 shelter Donation. Event registration only starting at 8 am, 5K starting at 9 am. Registration and Start/Finish at National Guard Armory in Douglas. Drawing for prizes plus refreshments available. Contact: email Pete Zellner or Call 307-358-5366 (H) or 307-358-3522 (W).


5/19/01 CAEDA 'Beat the Competition Fun Run', 5K/15K

CAEDA, Casper Area Economic Development Alliance, Beat the Competition Fun Run, 5K and 15K. Register at parking lot of Basko Building (Wyoming Oil & Gas Conservation Commission), located west of the intersection of the N. Platte River and 1st Street. The course will follow the Platte River Parkway.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. with 15K starting at 8 a.m. and 5K at 8:30 a.m. Preregistration cost is $10 or $15 day of race. Cost includes a T-shirt with water and treats at the finish line. 6/2/01 Buffalo Triathlon

4.2 mile run / 14 mile bike / swim 36 length YMCA pool, Start, exchange & finish at Johnson County Family YMCA, 101 Klondike Drive, (307)-684-9558. Age divisions for solo men & women, men & women team divisions. Preregister by May 25th for $20, later for $25. Pasta Dinner on Friday June 1st, 6-8 pm.


6/8 thru 6/10 Summer Cowboy State Games

The entire Summer Games have been canceled.


6/23/01 Summer Solstice Run/Walk

This event celebrates the start of summer and the longest day of the year in an extremely unique way - a moonlight run/walk down a lighted runway at midnight. The event will take place on June 23, 2001, registration starting at 11 p.m. at the Natrona County International Airport terminal building. Drawing for door prizes starts at 11 p.m. It is suggested that you bring a small flashlight and a jacket with you.

Entry fee is $15 for adults, $10 for ages 10 thru 16, and free for those under age 10. All proceeds go to benefit Jason's Friends Foundation. Note that there will not be t-shirts this year.

The actual run/walk will begin at midnight. The course will be a 4 mile run and 2 mile walk. The course will be timed for running participants. Strollers and wheelchairs are welcome. The airport's runways will be closed for the event but will remain lighted for the duration of the event. Contact: Bill Grigg 234-2321 (H)


7/10/01 Casper Chase

The Casper Chase will be held Tuesday, July 10, 2001 marking the start of the Central Wyoming Fair and Rodeo parade. The 5K road race begins at 9:20 a.m., with start/finish line at 7th & Ash streets. The 1K Kids fun run begins at 9:10 a.m., at City Park (Center & 7th streets), with the course on the sidewalk around the park. View the 5K course.

Participants of both events can pick up race bib numbers, t-shirts, and packets from 7 pm to 9 pm at City Park (Center & 7th) on Monday the 9th or from 6:30 am to 8:30 am on race day. Preregister to guarantee shirt and packet. Late entries will also be accepted during those times. Male and female first, second, and third place awards will be given in each age category as well as overall male and female.

Entry fees are $5 for the Kids Fun Run and $15 for adults before July 6, $20 after July 6. The non-refundable entry fee includes t-shirt, goody bag, and post-race snacks. Last year there were 100 runners for the 5K run. For the safety of all runners, baby strollers, roller blades/skates, head sets, and pets will not be allowed. Contact: Todd Condelario 237-1721 (H).


7/21/01 Heather Kelly / Jim Borgerding Memorial Run/Walk

This 5K run, 2 mile walk, is a memorial event held to honor the memory of longtime Strider members Heather Kelly and Jim Borgerding. Registration will be at the Wyoming Oil & Gas (Basko) Building with run/walk starting at 8 am. The course will be on the asphalt Platte River Parkway path. 8/4/01 Deer Creek Days

This 5K race is held at Glenrock (25 miles east of Casper) on Saturday August 4, beginning at 7 a.m., registration from 6:00 to 6:50 a.m. Entry fee is $15 and includes T-shirts. Start line and registration is at Glenrock's South Recreation Complex, go south of Glenrock on Mormon Canyon Road about 2 miles, then east to the Recreation Complex (campground/ball fields/rodeo arena). 8/24/01 Citizens Race, High School Cross Country Meet

This 5K event is held in conjunction with the High School Cross Country meet taking place on Casper mountain near Beartrap Meadow. The citizens race will take place at 5 pm following the completion of the high school races using the same dirt road course. Come early to watch the high school races and to find a place to park. High school meet starts at 3 pm with girls and boys' varsity and junior varsity races. Contact: Christy Olsen 235-0901 (H).


9/8/01 Mountain Challenge, 10K

A very challenging course, registration/start is at Rotary Park and follows Casper Mountain road, finishing at Beartrap Meadow. There will be some kind of gift for the first 18 registrants of the Mountain Challenge. A couple of water stations will be provided along the course. Start time is 8:30 a.m. Entry Fee: $5 members, $10 non-members.

Course: Starts at Rotary Park at an elevation of 6360 feet. The first 1/2 mile is downhill to Garden Creek road, 6090 feet. From here you will climb 1,800 feet to the finish at Beartrap meadow, 7890 feet.


9/29/01 Beaver Creek Slide, 19K

The first annual Beaver Creek Slide 19K starts at 9 am at the Dahlin residence located at 88 Beaver Creek Rd. Entry fee is $11 and must be received no later than September 22 (no registration on race day). Entry fee includes t-shirt, light lunch, top male and female prizes, and door prizes. Course appears to be mainly dirt roads. Aid stations approximately every 3 to 5 miles.

Course: A loop finishing in the same location. Will take you on some hilly back roads. Will be muddy if it rains. Contact: Bill Dahlin (307) 673-0411 or Rich Garrison (307) 672-3360.


10/13/01 Bar Nunn Run, 5K

Registration to be held at park near entrance of Bar Nunn. Race starts at 9 a.m., with course on the streets of Bar Nunn, no hills here. Contact: Genelle Bonnel 237-5812 (H)


11/17/01 Turkey Trot, 5K

Register at Edness Kimball Wilkins, start is 9 a.m. Two canned food goods or $5 can be used as your entry fee (To benefit Salvation Army). Various doors prizes will be drawn including a turkey, pie, and other fixings.


12/30/01 Resolution Run

The Resolution 2 mile run will be held at the Eastridge Mall starting at 8:00 a.m. Meet inside the mall to register near the food court. Come early to register and pay your 2002 membership fees. Entry fee for this race is $5 for members, $5 for students, and $10 for non-members.
