Club Tidbits (Archived)

Via email on 1/25/02: I just wanted to say Hi to all my running friends at the striders. I used to be a strider 6 years ago before I moved to Colorado. I was in town the other day and ran with Johnnie Dean. I was sorry that some of the striders didn't show up, but it was pretty windy. Anyway, good luck to everyone and God Bless, Kevin Dougherty

I'd like to thank the WCS for the get well card and comments. I'm not sure open heart bi-pass surgery is the kind of articles the WCS's need but believe there is a runners story. I was jogging on 2/28/99 when I knew something was really different - short of breath, rapid heart beat, pain in the chest and numbness in my left arm. A check the next day indicated a minor heart attack and the two doctors and I believed I had a partial blockage of an artery that could be corrected with angioplasty since all my signs were good and I felt great. The heart cat in fact showed 6 blocked arteries and the need for surgery. The reason I got by so well even with these problems was the condition I was in from exercising and running. I'm doing fine now and am on a rehabilitation program with recovery ahead of schedule. The points are: stay in shape, listen to your body when something is really different and if it is see a doctor.

Greetings from South Carolina! I left Casper in 1993 and have moved to a warmer climate but I often think of those sub-zero runs in Wyoming. It was fun to find this page and see all of the familiar names - I am encouraged that many of you are still hard at it! I, too, have continued running and am now doing several triathlons each year. I actually ran into Doug White at a triathlon in Ohio a few years back. Small world...

I am glad to see that Steve Barger is still able to break one hour for a 10K...Cindy and Bruce actually did the Big Horn 50 miler and got those COOKIES that they pass out along the course...Jake is still pushing the cross-country skiing...it's good to know that some things don't change. I am living here in Columbia, SC and am fortunate to be able to train daily on the Olympic Trials marathon course - a note to Matt Hartsky - it is VERY hilly! I would love to hear from anyone...drop me a line if you can.

Best wishes to all,
Noreen O'Donnell

We moved from Casper over 5 years ago and were happy to find your web page. It's good to see so many of the people we used to run with still/back running. What a fun time we had looking through your race results! We sure do miss ya'll.

All our love from Texas,
Jim and Bernie Steffeck

P.S. We are back running (after having another Steffeck). Now we have Daphne(18), Vicki (5), and Joseph (19mo.)

Doug White participated in the 20th anniversary Ironman Triathlon World Championships held in Hawaii on 10/3/98. Doug joined nearly 1500 athletes for a 2.4 mile ocean swim, 112 mile bike ride, and 26.2 mile marathon run. As Wyoming's lone representative, Doug felt right at home battling the 40 mph headwinds during the bike ride.

Rose Fry and Amy Daley had their picture taken with Bill Rogers while in the Big Apple for the 1998 New York Marathon.

CWCS club members Pete Zellner, Doreen Ramirez, Don Jacobson, and Mel Koslowsky completed the Mt. Rushmore International Marathon held October, 1998.

Cindy Parrish and Bruce Lamberson's summer vacation included a little mountain adventure, the 50 mile Bighorn Trail Run held June, 1998. What a way to get your mileage in!
