The Windy City Striders board met on January 29, 2005. Members present were Wendy, Phil, Lee, Eric, Dawn, Dianna and Barb. Also present was Mary Ann from the marathon committee.
1. Cold weather cancellation policy: Board members in attendance reviewed e-mails regarding the January 15 cancellation from several club members. It was decided to retain the cold weather cancellation policy. It was discussed that any cancellation decision should be made at the race site at race time and that two board members should be present and should jointly make and announce any cancellation.
2. Substitution of other races/runs for Winter Series races: Runners who have paid the entire Winter Series fee may be permitted to use their January 15, 2005, time with approval of the Board. In the case of marathons, the Board reaffirms the January 2000 policy providing that a marathon may be substituted for a Winter Series race provided that: the runner pays the Winter Series fee, the runner petitions to the Board for Board approval, and the runner agrees to submit an article about the race to the newsletter. The Board reserves the right to grant other substitutions and exceptions for runners where extenuating circumstances exist. To be eligible for the overall first male or female Winter Series prize, runners must run all five Winter Series races on-site in Casper.
3. It was discussed whether or not to start the Winter Series in December, instead of January as has traditionally been the case. It was decided that the membership will be polled. A ballot will appear in the summer issue of the newsletter. Members may respond by snail mail or e-mail, however there will be only a limited amount of time to respond.
4. Todd Condelario had requested that the Board and the Marathon Committee contribute to an anti-smoking banner to be hung on the Casper Legion Baseball outfield fence. Per Todd, he will approach the Casper Chase committee to share in the cost of the banner. The fee for the banner will be $200. It was decided that the Board will contribute $50, as will the Marathon. Wendy will contact Todd regarding the language to be on the banner.
