Lander Half Marathon Press Release
It s that time of year folks; the time of year when we pull out the old tennis shoes and Aspirin in order to run the annual Lander Half Marathon. This year is the 30th annual 13.2 miles race around Baldwin Creek on the Fourth of July sponsored by Elemental Training Center, Shirts & More, Brooks, and Wigwam. Feeling the area needed a long distance race, Phil Gilbertson, an avid runner including marathons, established the race over Independence Day because he believed it would be a great way to start the day s festivities. His wife, Carolyn, a long time participant in both the walking and running category, attributes the popularity of the race to the scenic and challenging route and because the race is now known to be a happening on the 4th . If you are interested in participating in this exciting race, you can pre-register at the following locations: Elemental Training Center (134 Lincoln St), Shirt s & More (371 Main Street) and Lander Chamber of Commerce (160 N. 1st Street). You may also pre-register online at elementalgym.com. The entry fee is $25 up until June 29th at noon and $35 after. Proceeds will benefit Mission of Mercy and the High Plains Skiers. Pre-registration on site will commence at 5:30 a.m. The event will begin at Centennial Park with the walkers starting at 6 a.m. and the runners will start later at 6:30 a.m. The current walking record in held by Pat Loper (2:15:15) and Matt Hartsky holds the male running record with a time of 1:12:09. Dawn Fischer and Brenda Gray both hold the female with a time of 1:27:01. The award ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. and all participants will receive a free t-shirt with their completion of the race.
